Abstract Submission

All the three societies have sessions for presentation of original work and invite abstracts for this purpose. Abstracts for presentation for all the three societies should be submitted electronically at the conference website www.sgpgi.ac.in/conf/isg2001.html.

Authors who do not have facilities for electronic submission may send a good quality
(laser or inkjet printer output) to the Editor, Indian Journal of Gastroenterology, 23 Bombay Mutual Terrace, 534 Sandhurst Bridge, Mumbai 400 007, who will arrange for these to be submitted electronically. The last date for receipt of abstracts will be July 31, 2001.

In the past, the authors were required to mail abstracts to (a) Secretary of the respective society, (b) Organizing Secretary of the conference and (c) Editor, Indian Journal of Gastroenterology. The electronic submission system obviates the need for such multiple mailings since the electronic version will be forwarded to all the intended recipients. The submission process will generate a confirmation screen indicating the text submitted. The authors may print it out for their future reference.

Electronic Submission Format

The electronic submission format has the following fields into which the information has to be typed:
a. Abstract title
The maximum permitted length is 150 characters. Use capital letter only for the first character of the title. Don't capitalize the entire title or the first letter of each word.
b. Authors' names
List all authors' names, separted by commas. First names should precede surnames. The maximum permitted length of this field is 150 characters.
c. Authors' affiliation

The authors should click on one of the three options provided (ISG, INASL or SGEI)
h. Preference about mode of presentation
The authors should click on one of the three options provided (oral, poster or either)
i. Topic or subject heading
This information will help in classification of abstracts so that abstracts on one topic can be placed in one area. A list of available subject headings is as follows:
Esophagus

Stomach (non-H pylori)

Large intestine
Liver: Viral hepatitis
Liver: Portal hypertension
Liver: others
Gallbladder and biliary tree
Pancreas

Miscellaneous

The authors can keep this information ready in any word-processing software before submitting. On connecting to the internet, they can copy and paste each piece of information into the respective space. This will reduce the online time needed for abstract submission.

The abstract submission form's word wrap feature works in Internet Explorer, but not in Netscape Communicator. Thus, if you have both the browser programs available, it is preferable to use Internet Explorer.

Information about acceptance or otherwise of abstracts for presentation will be conveyed by the respective societies to the authors by September 15, 2001. It is planned to make this information available on the conference website too.
