Welcome
Lucknow, renowned as the
city of nazaakat (delicacy), tahzeeb (culture), sher-o-shayari
(verses) and taazeem (civility) from the days of its nawabiyat (aristocracy),
beckons you
this November.
What does the city of
Lucknow offer the delegates? The venue, Sanjay Gandhi
Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, is located in lush green surroundings,
15 km
from the city center. It offers an island of tranquility in our current chaotic
and noisy world.
Its brand new convention center provides state-of-the-art facilities with
adequate space for
scientific posters and exhibition. Our endeavor is to provide a setting for
learning and
teaching through an informative and interactive CME. We hope to enhance the
quality of
scientific sessions by ensuring punctuality in academic sessions.
The city is home to several
academic and research institutions such as the famous King
George's Medical College, Lucknow University, Central Drug Research Institute,
National
Botanical Research Institute, Industrial and Toxicology Research Centre, Central
Institute
for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and the Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany.
These
institutions may be of interest to several of you.
Lucknow was the Paris
of East during the Nawabi period in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Monuments of this period such as the Bara and the Chhota Imambaras, Rumi Darwaza,
Chhatar Manzil, Dilkusha Palace, and the ruins of the British Residency, a
focal point of the
first war of Indian independence in 1857, beckon the historically minded.
In addition to scientific
and historic fare, Lucknow has much to offer, including the talent of
local artisans embodied by the fine chikan garments and zardozi work, the
renowned
Kathak dance style, and the famed and delightful Awadhi cuisine. November
in Lucknow is
usually pleasant allowing visitors to enjoy the many historic sights and monuments
within
the city and the religious minded to avail of tours to the neighboring holy
places like
Varanasi and Allahabad. Lucknow is also the take-off point for the Buddhist
circuit of
Sravasti, Lumbini and Sarnath, for the famed hill resorts of Himalayas like
Nainital, Almora
and Ranikhet, and for renowned wildlife sanctuaries such as the Corbett National
Park and
the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.
Well then, do come to
Lucknow this November and sample the feast of science and culture
that we plan to offer you.
