Residency Program

The department has a three-year residency program that leads to M.Ch. (Urology) degree. Presently, the department takes four candidates every year. Prospective candidate should have completed a 3-year residency in General Surgery from a teaching institution, recognized by the Medical Council of India. The nationwide selection is based on a theory examination and practical examination. The selected trainees undergo a structured training program in various aspects of urology and renal transplantation.  Each trainee is expected to have a minimum of two publications and must undergo four institutional courses like biostatistics, animal experimentation, laboratory technology, computer sciences & information technology etc. At the end of 3 years, they appear in an examination consisting of theory and practical (clinical and viva-voce) components, for the award of M.Ch. (Urology) degree of the Institute.

In addition, the department has 4 posts of hospital services senior residents (2 general and 2 reserved for schedule caste candidates).  These persons undergo training exactly similar to that for M.Ch. trainees but are not enrolled for M.Ch. degree.  Thus, these trainees receive an excellent exposure and experience in urology.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Renal Transplantation

This is a post-doctoral fellowship program of one-year duration.  The candidate should have M.Ch. or DNB degree in Urology; selection is based on curriculum vitae and a personal interview.  There is no examination, either at entry or on completion. The candidate will be trained in various aspects of renal transplantation and in related fields. He will receive a certificate after successful completion of the training.
